the Festival

During the month of May 2007, following a National Public Announcement among the most competitive cities, the Ministero dei Beni e delle Attività Culturali (Ministry of Cultural Assets and Activities) assigned to Naples the centre, the governmental resources made available to the initiative and the organization of the Teatro Festival Italia. For the management of the prologue (in the Autumn of 2007) and of the first editions of the program, in August of 2007, it was established by the Region of Campania, the City Hall of Naples, and by the Province of Naples, with the participation of the Ministry of Cultural Assets and Activities, the Campagnia Foundation of Festivals, chaired by Rachele Furfaro.
After the Prologue events (October 10/13, 2007) Renato Qualia, who started a triennial artistic and cultural project (2008/2010), was called to be the artistic and organizational director of the Festival.
The project is developed according to some directive guidelines:

a) internationality;

b) attention to new dramaturgy and to the creation of new texts;

c) involvement of the city in the expression of its grand theatrical and musical traditions, as in the promotion or the support of specific projects of is various creative or innovative energies;

d) the explicit vocation to production and the original creation of events and operas for the festival;

e) inter-disciplinary nature and research as to languages/speech;

f) training and perfection activities for the professionalism engaged in the field of the cultural activities and assets in the Regions of Southern Italy;

g) commitment in favour of the environment and respect of European regulations of eco-sustainability also for the activity of cultural institutions.

The characterizing aspect of the Festival is event production: the Napoli Teatro Festival Italia is committed to the production, financing, creating events and new texts for the theatre.

Beyond the directing guidelines that determine the articulation of the program, the project includes numerous initiatives that contemplate also the areas of: training, cultural economy, territorial development (of the city as well as those regional and inter-regional, with particular attention given to the growth dynamic of the Regions of Southern Italy), environment, cataloguing and archiving of cultural assets and patrimony.
